Forest Resource Management
Mission:
The Council of Western State Foresters (CWSF) saw a need for a committee to coordinate the development and implementation efforts for various programs in the “Forestry Title”, or Title XII, of the 1990 Farm Bill. To this end, on May 22, 1991, the CWSF established a committee known as the Western Stewardship Committee. In 2005, that committee was renamed as the Western Forest Resource Management Committee (WFRMC or “Committee”) to reflect the need to span a broader variety of rural forestry and landowner assistance programs.
The programs that will be addressed by this Committee include, but are not limited to the following: Forest Stewardship, Forest Legacy, Forest Land Enhancement Program as well as other USDA programs important to the sustainability of family forest lands.
Purpose:
- Provide staff support and advice to the CWSF in the areas of stewardship, sustainability, economic development and working lands in the West. The western approach integrates State and Forest Service viewpoints to build on the strengths, opportunities, needs, and unique values of the West; is consistent with national program guidelines and authorizing legislation; and has the flexibility to meet state needs and opportunities
- State members of the committee can provide the CWSF with allocation recommendations for rural forestry and landowner assistance program funds, as requested.
- Recommend special projects to the CWSF and coordinate successful completion of approved projects.
- Consolidate, prepare, and submit special reports to the CWSF and others, as requested.
